Palworld received mostly positive reviews from critics. IGN and PC Invasion praised its fun combat and engaging gameplay loop, with the latter noting the large, albeit somewhat barren, environments being brought to life by different Pals. The Escapist described the combat allowing players to fight alongside their Pals against tougher enemies as a high point. PCGamesN called the game “a morbidly compelling descent into creature capitalism”, stating that though it had some flaws, such as its insistence on ethically questionable behavior and the unoriginal designs of Pals, its gameplay and the open world made up for it. GameSpot praised the game’s mechanics and tone as a “refreshing perspective in a genre so often tripping over itself to present things as joyous and heartfelt”, believing it to represent the first time “a creature collector game has owned up to its exploitation-as-gameplay systems.”

You might hear a radio message come over your speeder bike’s police scanner, pointing you to a cache of stolen Imperial supplies for a quick dose of combat and item gathering. You can spare a few credits for a stranger who’ll tell you all about the secrets held by the mysterious wind tunnels on the other side of the map. Or perhaps, stumble on a speeder bike enthusiast on the roadside who’ll challenge you to a race.
I haven’t spoken much about Star Wars Outlaws’ characters or story, mostly to avoid spoilers. I will say that I really came to like Kay over time, and that the crew members she recruits for the heist are an interesting bunch. Gedeek, a nervy and idealistic droidsmith whose banter with Kay paints a fun picture of their childhood friendship, is a standout. However, Kay simply doesn’t spend enough time with these shipmates to truly sell or explore their connections, and a couple of late-game narrative turns rely on believing that certain characters are fast friends when the game hasn’t really provided enough to support that. Massive does find dimension in Kay over the critical path’s 35-40 hours. I enjoyed having a protagonist who would call the Rebellion on their bullshit when necessary, for example, when so many Star Wars stories are sharp binary, good-versus-evil tales where the Rebels are bastions of heroism.
But, Kay isn’t alone in this endeavor, either. The first trailer introduced us to her loyal companion, Nix, a four-legged furry alien who embodies Star Wars creature design at its finest. You’ll also be adventuring alongside a trenchcoat-wearing commando droid called ND-5, as you gather a team for a big heist mission.
