Cat cafes gained popularity in Japan a few years ago. The concept allows those that can’t have cats in their living space to enjoy the company of felines while enjoying a beverage and sometimes a light snack.
For those of us in the US that have been intrigued by the idea for some time, a cat cafe may be opening in San Francisco later this year. The owners, Courtney Hatt and David Braginsky plan to open a tea house tentatively called KitTea, where cats and people can interact.
One interesting aspect of KitTea is to provide a home for homeless cats in danger of being euthanized. Hatt and Braginsky are working with veterinarians and animal behaviorists to make the environment at KitTea comfortable for it’s feline residents.
The owners are scouting possible locations and working with the City of San Francisco to obtain the necessary permits to open the cafe. If all goes well, the plan is to open KitTea this summer.
