Cats have the desire to cozy up and stay warm. It is not unusual to walk into a room and find your cat all balled up or stretched out in the sunniest spot in the room. As these colder months settle in, your cat may spend more time simply seeking the warmest spot in your home. Here are some ideas for keeping cats warm this winter:

Provide A Warm Napping Spot
According to catbehaviorassociates.com, providing a soft, warm bed is great for older cats suffering from arthritic pain and stiffness. Commercially available heated beds are one option.
When shopping for heated beds, check that your cat can freely move away from the heat should he get too warm. With the thin skin cats have, they can easily get burned.
Choosing A Heated Bed
Look for beds that heat to your cat’s body temperature and return to room temperature when not in use. Check to ensure the bed you select has a removable cover so you can wash it periodically. For added warmth, place the bed in elevated locations.

If your cat is not as mobile as he used to be and needs help stepping over the sides of the box, cut out a low-sided entrance for him.
Does your cat like to sneak under your bed covers? If so, consider getting a semi-enclosed “A” frame cat bad. Many cats enjoy that sense of security when they can feel their backs leaning up against something.
For cats that sleep all sprawled out, then a traditional flat heated cat bed just might fit the bill.
Change Up Your Indoors
Keeping cats warm can be easy by making a few indoor environment changes to take full advantage of the sun. Open any blinds and curtains during the day and move pieces of furniture so your cat can move with the sun throughout the course of the day.
