Now that we are in the height of graduation season, perhaps it is time for a bit of fun “continuing education” on cats. After all, the learning should never stop! Plus, these fun facts presented here are just that…. fun! And, who knows? Perhaps one day access to this information may make you a winner in a random trivia contest! You may think you know your own cat…and you do…but just how much do you know about cats in general?

Fact #1: A cat’s front paws have five toes while the back paws have four.
Fact #2: Your cat cannot taste things that are sweet, as his/her taste buds cannot detect sugar.
Fact #3: Kitty litter was originally made from sand, but in 1948, it was discovered clay was more absorbent.
Fact #4: Sir Isaac Newton invented the cat flap door.
Fact #5: Not everyone is a fan of cats, and a couple high-profile individuals in history who had an alleged disdain for the feline kind were Dwight D. Eisenhower and Adolf Hitler. However, Robert E. Lee and Abraham Lincoln both had hearts of compassion for kitties.
Fact #6: President Lincoln actually shared the White House with four cats.
Fact #7: Your cat purrs around 26 purrs per second, which is at the same frequency as an idling diesel engine.
Fact #8: Your cat relies on its whiskers to determine if he/she can fit through an opening.
Fact #9: Even though Usain Bolt is the 100-meter world record holder for running and has been clocked kicking it at 27 miles per hour, a cat can outrun him at 30 miles per hour!
Fact #10: Your cat can hear sounds that dogs and humans cannot, thanks to his/her ultrasonic hearing!
