When it comes to cat stories, the story of Tommy and how he saved his human’s life is extraordinary.
Tommy was a tan and orange cat that lived in Columbus, Ohio with his wheelchair-bound human, Gary Rosheisen. In 2006, Rosheisen fell out of his wheelchair and wasn’t able to get up or call for help.
Shortly after he fell, there was a call placed to 911. When the dispatcher answered, there was silence on the other end of the line. The call was disconnected and the dispatcher called the phone number. When there was no answer, police were dispatched to Rosheisen’s home. The police arrived at the home and upon entering found Rosheisen on the floor and Tommy by the phone, but no one else.
Later, Rosheisen said he’d tried to teach Tommy how to press the speed dial button on the phone to call 911, but he didn’t think Tommy had paid attention. Evidently, he was wrong and Tommy had learned the lesson very well! Rosheisen declared to the Associated Press that Tommy was his hero.
