Cats are better than dogs. Dogs are better than cats. This debate could go on and on between pet owners. They are equally great, but, when deciding which is the better choice for you, there are some factors to consider. Here are a few reasons why we believe cats are a better pet choice than dogs.
Cats Take Less Space Than Dogs.
Dogs tend to always get into your personal space, and they also need plenty of room to play and exercise. Then there are all of the dog toys and the dog bed. Cats, however, are happy with the essentials, such as litter boxes, food, a water dish and some affection as needed.
Cats Are More Cost Effective.
For example, dog toys are more expensive than cat toys, as they have to be made of materials that will stand up to a lot of wear and tear. Dogs also require substantial exercise. If you work full-time, it can be a challenge to get in 2-3 walks a day with your dog. If you factor in a dog walker while you are at work, that can cost up to $20.00 per walk.
Cats, however, are expert loungers and nappers and can pretty much satisfy themselves with their toys while you work.
Cats Are Happy Indoors.
Dogs? Not so much. It’s nearly impossible to have a dog who lives an indoor-only lifestyle.
Cats are safer indoors and are content to just relax next to a window to watch the birds or curl up in a sunny spot on the couch.
Cats Are Quieter Than Dogs.
Dogs may bark at the smallest noise, passersby, or simply at another animal. She may even bark and growl if her favorite toy is stuck under the couch. Yes, cats do make noise, but their overall meows and purrs are relatively quiet.
Potty Breaks?
It is far easier to clean a litter box for a cat than to get out and take a dog on multiple walks throughout the day. Plus, scooping up dog poop with a plastic bag over your hand is not necessarily fun, day in and day out.
Cats are Cleaner.
They are literally self-cleaning machines. Sure, you may have to groom her every now and again and clip her nails as needed, but, for the most part, she can tend to her own needs in this regard.
For dogs, that translates to routine bathing and grooming, which can be quite expensive if you take her to a groomer on a regular basis. If you do the grooming and bathing at home, that simply eats into your time. And then, you have to factor in the mess to clean up afterwards!
Cats Understand Concept of Personal Space.
Had a bad day at work? Most cats don’t require your time and attention all of the time. But dogs? They will be all over you from the moment you walk into the door. Sure, it’s great to be greeted and loved like that, but sometimes it’s nice to unwind without a dog constantly bringing a toy to you.
Cats and dogs are great! Whether you think one is superior to the other depends largely on your personality and lifestyle. Time and budget are factors to consider as well. Either way, having a pet in our lives is truly enriching, don’t you agree?
