Celebrate Cat Birthdays In Style: Let’s Get This “Purr-ty” Started!

Now that my boys are all grown and in college, long gone are the days when I could throw a fun birthday party for them. I now have the time to focus on my pet instead. Here are a few ideas from petcentric.com to help you celebrate cat birthdays in style!

Celebrate Cat Birthdays By Throwing a Party

Toss aside the notion that parties are just for humans. Of course, it doesn’t have to be an over-the-top shindig!  A low-key gathering works just fine.

Take selfies in pet-safe party hats or purchase some new toys for your cat.  Set aside quality one-on-one playtime with her.  If you are so inspired, invite a couple of friends and their cats to come over and join in the fun.  Don’t forget the snack table, either! Set out a variety of chewy and crunchy treats for all to enjoy.

Make a Cake for Your Cat

Yes, you can do this, and it is so easy.  You can use food you already have on hand that your cat loves. Just pop open a can of her favorite food and put it on a dish. Use a butter knife to help you get it out of the can whole, like  a cake, and then “decorate” the top of it with your cat’s favorite kibble.

Indulge and Pamper Your Cat

We all know cats are creatures of comfort, so be sure to incorporate some cozy touches to her normal routine.  Spread out fresh, warm sheets from the dryer for her to rest on; open all of the curtains to let more sun in; sprinkle some catnip on her favorite blanket; or just give her a bunch of extra snuggles throughout the day.

Get a Professional Portrait Taken of Your Cat

Yes, I used to take birthday portraits of my kids. I never did this for our pets, but I would consider it now.  Find a local pet photographer and make a special birthday appointment. If your cat is very camera-shy, consider having his portrait drawn/painted.  Select a favorite picture of your cat, then submit to the artist.  I’ve seen some wonderful artist renderings of cats!

To some folks it may seem silly or even a bit odd to celebrate cat birthdays, or any other pet, but as much love and loyalty they give us throughout the year, it seems on fitting – and fair – to return the favor in kind in a magical way at least one special day of the year
