Cats. We adore them for the unconditional love they provide us. We cherish them for the companionship they offer us. We love them for how they make us feel. And we still put up with them despite some of the quirky things they do. But, let’s be fair. I am certain if cats wrote blog posts about humans, the subject matter would be highly entertaining and enlightening!
Cats are amazing creatures, and I am sure we can all agree on that point. However, they do exhibit some odd behaviors that, more often than not, cause us to scratch our heads in wonder but then lead us to ultimately love them even more. Have you noticed any of these silly traits in your own cat???
Kneading. It never fails. Just as soon as you relax in your favorite chair, your feline friend suddenly appears to massage you or the blankets for a snuggle session. While nursing kittens knead to encourage milk flow from their mothers, this tendency continues into adulthood as a means of expressing contentment and to calm themselves when feeling anxious. In short, when a cat kneads like this with you, she is basically saying, “I love you.”
Hiding in small spaces. “Where are you???” Can’t find your cat? Have you checked the paper bag on the floor yet? Cats love to seek out small and discreet hiding places, which we often see as cute, but they deems as safe. These places offer them comfort, security and warmth.
Running from one end of the house to the other. Training for a race or just being silly? Yes, this activity could quite possibly rank up there as one of the strangest things cats do, and they do it often. You know the drill. Your cat is just sitting there quietly, minding her own business, and in an instant, she darts across the room at top speed. You think she is just foolishly chasing nothing, but you are wrong. Cats are highly observant creatures, and she may have just seen a dust bunny float by and pursued it to the death! You may not see what inspired the sudden burst of activity but trust us on this on….she saw something and is on it!
Espionage. Calling 007! You think you are a spy? Well, check out our cats! They can engage in spying behaviors that could make the FBI and NSA appear untrained. Cats love to watch and observe all around them, keeping vigilant tabs on their environment. You just never know what might catch their attention!
