5 Products To Make Life Better For Cats And Their People

Cats can be a tough crowd to please, so when I find products that seem to be a hit with all the cats I encounter, I like to share them! There are several cat products I’ve come across that my cat Marty, and my pet sitting cat clients love.

Does Your Cat Gobble Her Food?  Check out PetSafe SlimCat Interactive Toy and Food Dispenser

Recently, I did pet sitting for cat clients Nala and Oliver.  Nala is food obsessed, she inhales her food, then tries to go after Oliver’s.  He’s a slower eater and will move out of the way to give Nala free rein to eat his food.

As a result, Nala gained quite a bit of weight and has been on a very strict diet to keep her bingeing in check.

When I witnessed Nala’s behavior, I decided to try the PetSafe SlimCat Interactive Toy And Food Dispenser with her.  It’s an adjustable food dispensing toy (for dry food) that works quite well.

Since it’s a ball, cats are naturally inclined to bat it, and once batted, it dispenses food.  This gives cats a mental challenge by forcing them to hunt for the food.  Something new for them to do, making meals more fun rather than simply gobbling from a dish.

Nala took to the toy right away, and her eating slowed to the point Oliver finished his meal before her, and joined in the food hunt!

Used Litter Disposal a Hassle?  Try the Litter Genie

products

When disposing of used litter, I used to use plastic grocery bags, but I’m using cloth bags more these days, so the plastics are in short supply.  Enter the Litter Genie!  It’s a great way to dispose of used litter.  The unit comes with one cartridge, and refills are readily available in stores or online.

Litter Genie does a good job of controlling odors, and comes with a litter scoop to make litter disposal easy and convenient.  It works well for single cat households, but may not be the best choice for multi-cat households due to the unit’s size.

Is Your Cat A Scratcher Snob?  Check out PetFusion Ultimate Cat Scratcher Lounge

products

I admit my cat Marty is a scratcher snob.  After trying a variety of scratchers with different surfaces, and seeing Marty ignore them, I finally came to terms with the fact he likes cardboard scratchers.

One of his favorites is the PetFusion Ultimate Cat Scratcher Lounge.  It comes in white, gray and brown to match a variety of decors.  The scratcher can be turned over when your cat is ready for a fresh scratching spot.

It’s large enough for cats to lay on comfortably (34 x 10.5 x 10.5 inches). Put in a spot where you’ll be able to walk around it easily.

I’ve gotten Marty scratchers in the past that weren’t very sturdy so they tipped over easily.  This scratcher is sturdy, and doesn’t tip over when your cat climbs on it.

Is Your Cat A Fan Of the Nip?  Check out YEOWWW! Catnip Toys

products
Here’s Chance with his YEOWW! Catnip Banana toy

Every cat I’ve encountered that’s a catnip fan goes bananas for the YEOWWW! catnip toys!  The nip in them is quite potent.  When I’ve ordered the toys in the past, they’ve come in ziplock bags to contain the catnip scent.

The toys are high quality, and the catnip in them is organic. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The banana and rainbow are two of my favorites.  Your cat will LOVE them too!

Is Your Cat On The Anxious SIde?  Check Out Feliway Classic Diffuser

products

Does your cat become anxious when there’s a change of schedule, or new people are around? My cat Marty is quite anxious, so I decided to try Feliway pherenomone diffusers. I often notice Marty lying close to the diffuser when he’s taking a time out to relax.

The liquid in the diffuser lasts around 30 days, and I’ve noticed when a diffuser runs low, Marty becomes much more skittish than normal.

Feliway products come in spray form, too, so they can help ease anxiety when it’s time for a events like car rides or vet visits  Spray some of the Feliway in your cat’s carrier prior to getting in the car. The spray also works well to curb unwanted behaviors such scratching a specific piece of furniture or marking inappropriately.

I’ve tried all of these products for my cat Marty and many of my cat sitting clients and they’ve been successes. Give them a shot and leave us a comment on how they worked for you.

What are some of your and your cat’s favorite products?
