If you have a pet that needs to drink more water, the answer may be a water fountain. One very attractive option in today’s product review is the Drinkwell Pagoda Fountain in Himalayan Blue.
The unit comes with everything you need to get it set up: Ceramic bowl, charcoal filter, housing for filter, pump, plug and adapter. No tools are required for assembly, and the directions are easy to follow.
When I first set up the fountain, my cat Marty was very wary of it. He would go to great lengths to avoid it, unsure of what the new creature was in the kitchen. Marty is slow to accept changes so this didn’t surprise me, but by the second day of the same behavior, I was afraid the fountain would be a no go.
As time went on, and after much encouragement from me, Marty got closer to the fountain. By the fourth day, he decided to take a drink from it, now I see him sipping from it several times a day. So, keep this in mind and don’t be discouraged if your cat doesn’t embrace it immediately.
As the instruction booklet points out, regular cleaning is required to keep the fountain working its best. The Pagoda comes with a charcoal filter to sift out impurities from the water. Coupons for money off additional filters is included in the box. One important thing to keep in mind is that the water level in the bowl should remain 1/2 from the top to prevent the pump from burning out.
I like this fountain because it’s ceramic, so it won’t harbor bacteria like plastic is inclined to do. When cleaning the Pagoda, it’s recommended for hand washing, but can be put in the dishwasher if you prefer. The Himalayan Blue is a very attractive color that will coordinate well with many decors, but the Pagoda also comes in red or white. The design is sleek and modern so it doesn’t detract from the space where it’s located.
