Holiday season is a time for friends and family, but all the hustle and bustle can be very stressful for our feline companions. Here are some tips to keep in mind so your cat will stay safe and healthy through the holidays:
Make A Safe Room
Many cats become very stressed with the change in schedule and visitors the holidays bring to the home. Make one room in your home a “safe room” for your cat. Keep the door closed and be sure guests know not to open the door, consider posting a sign on the door to keep visitors away. Be sure to have water and litter box in the room, along with a few of your cat’s favorite toys to make them feel at home.
Feed Cats Their Meal First
It may be tempting to give your cat tastes of your meal, but many ingredients like butter and onions can make them very ill. So your cat can enjoy Thanksgiving too, set aside a few small pieces of plain turkey (no skin, no dressing or gravy) and a small amount of giblet. He might also enjoy a spoonful of plain pumpkin as a dessert!
Take Time To Check On Your Cat
It’s easy to forget about pets when busy with meal prep and entertaining guests. Set aside some quiet time with your cat before guests arrive. This will show your cat you haven’t forgotten about him and will help calm you before the holiday madness begins!
Give Thanks For Your Cat
When thinking of all you have to be thankful for, remember your feline companion. Cats add so much to our lives, Thanksgiving is a good time to keep that in mind.
When it comes to cat health during the holidays, remember to keep your cat indoors and stress free so he can enjoy this holiday and many more with you and your family.
