Change A Pet’s Life Contest

As pet lovers, we all want to do everything possible to help pets in need.  The team at 1-800-PetMeds is doing their part by hosting the Change A Pet’s change a pet's lifeLife Contest.

Change A Pet’s Life Day (January 24 each year) was established in 2009 to encourage pet adoption and bring attention to the number of homeless pets in the United States.

In 2015, 1-800-PetMeds created the Change A Pet’s Life Contest.  The contest was established to provide funds for pets in need of surgery or other medical treatment the opportunity to become healthy and ready for their forever homes.

Animal rescues and shelters in the U.S are eligible to enter this year’s contest.  Beginning today, rescue groups may submit one pet in their care that is in need of surgery or other treatment to be adoptable.

The contest is open to shelter or rescue groups in the United States. All contest entries must include the following:

  • A photo of the nominated pet
  • Their pet entrant’s health concern
  • How their group acquired the nominated pet
  • How surgery or other prescribed treatment will change the pet’s life.

Prize winners will receive the following:

  • The winning group will receive up to $2000 for their pet entrant’s treatment. A video of the winning pet and rescue group will be filmed by 1800PetMeds and will be featured on 1800PetMeds.com and other social media channels.
  • The second place pet/rescue group will receive $1000 toward their entrant’s treatment
  • The third place pet/rescue winner will receive $500 toward their entrant’s treatment.

All cash awards will be paid directly to the veterinarians and/or animal hospital overseeing the winning pet’s care.

Last year’s winner, a pug named Gorilla, was in need of extensive surgery to become well enough to be adoptable.  Contest winnings paid for Gorilla’s oral  and airway surgeries.  He is now happy in his forever home.
