The limerick was made popular by Edward Lear and dates back almost 500 years. Its distinctive metre and AABBA rhyming scheme lend themselves well to nonsense verse. Since today is Limerick Day, I wrote these ones about cats:
Ode To My Cat Marty
I now have a cat named Marty,
He’s often the life of the party,
A little weight he’s put on
Wish that weight was long gone,
But Marty’s appetite is just too hearty!
For A Cat
A cat will make anyone a good pet,
When I spend time with a cat I’m all set.
Others have gerbils, hamsters or a frog
Many even love having a dog.
I prefer the company of a feline,
Because a cat’s personality is so like mine!
